You already know a slow, dated website leaves a bad impression. But here are five specific things that actively cost you customers — and most business owners don't realise they're happening.
1. It takes more than 3 seconds to load
53% of mobile visitors leave a page that takes longer than 3 seconds to load. If your site is built on a bloated page builder or hosts images that haven't been compressed since 2016, you're losing people before they've read a word.
2. It looks broken on mobile
More than 60% of web traffic is now mobile. If your site has text that's too small to read, buttons that are hard to tap, or layouts that fall apart on a phone — that's the majority of your visitors having a bad experience.
3. Nobody can find the phone number
Your phone number and email should be reachable in one click from any page. If someone has to hunt for contact details, most won't bother. They'll just call a competitor instead.
4. The content is years out of date
Prices from 2021. Services you no longer offer. A blog post from 2018 as your most recent update. Stale content signals to both visitors and Google that this business may not be active any more.
5. It's not on Google at all
Type your business name + location into Google. If your website doesn't appear on the first page, or doesn't appear at all — you have an SEO problem. This is usually fixable with basic technical work and some focused content.
Any one of these issues can cost you leads every single day. All five together is a serious problem worth fixing this month, not next quarter.
